Head Over Heels, the new musical featuring the hits of the Go-Go’s, will play San Francisco’s Curran in spring 2018. As previously speculated, a Broadway engagement will follow in the 2018–2019 season.
The Michael Mayer-directed production will run on the West Coast from April 24 through May 20.
A version of the musical premiered at the Oregon Shakespeare Festival in 2015. Soon after, Oscar winner Gwyneth Paltrow became attached to the project, leading to a series of revisions, readings, and workshops.
Unlike most jukebox musicals circling Broadway (including The Cher Show, Ain’t Too Proud, and Summer), Head Over Heels will not chart the lives and careers of the artists featured in the score. Instead, it will tell a mistaken identity, jealousy, an scandal-filled story inspired by Philip Sidney’s 16th century Arcadia. James Magruder has adapted Jeff Whitty's original book for the upcoming stagings.
Joining Mayer on the creative team are musical supervisor and orchestrator Tom Kitt and choreographer Spencer Liff. The design team will feature set designer Julian Crouch, lighting designer Kevin Adams, costume designer Arianne Phillips, and sound designer Kai Harada.
Producing alongside Paltrow are her former boyfriend Donovan Leitch, Rick Ferrari, Christine Russell, Louise Gund, Hunter Arnold, and Tom Kirdahy. Additional information, including a Broadway theatre, official dates, and cast, will be announced at a later time.
