Performances begin November 19 for the Signature Theatre's revival of Lynn Nottage's 2004 play Fabulation, or The Re-Education of Undine, directed by Obie Award winner Lileana Blain-Cruz. The satirical tale by the two-time Pulitzer Prize winner kicks off Nottage's playwriting residency at the Off-Broadway theatre.
Fabulation, or The Re-Education of Undine is playing in Signature's Romulus Linney Courtyard Theatre where it will officially open December 10 and continue an extended engagement through January 6, 2019.
Set in New York City, Fabulation, or The Re-Education of Undine follows successful African-American publicist Undine, as she stumbles down the social ladder after her husband steals her hard-earned fortune. Broke and now pregnant, Undine is forced to return to her childhood home in the Brooklyn projects, where she must face the challenges of the life she left behind.
The title role of Undine is played by Cherise Boothe, who starred in Nottage's Ruined Off-Broadway. Completing the cast are Mayaa Boateng (Fairview), Marcus Callender (Straight Outta Compton), J. Bernard Calloway (Head of Passes), Dashiell Eaves (A Time to Kill), Ian Lassiter (Junk), Nikiya Mathis (Skeleton Crew), and Heather Alicia Simms (Barbecue).
The creative team includes Adam Rigg (scenic designer), Montana Levi Blanco (costume designer), Yi Zhao (lighting designer), and Palmer Hefferan (sound designer). The production stage manager is Terri K. Kohler, and casting is by Caparelliotis Casting.
