The MCC Theater’s world premiere production of School Girls; Or, the African Mean Girls Play, written by Jocelyn Bioh, is set to begin performances off-Broadway November 1 at the Lucille Lortel Theatre ahead of an official opening November 16.
Directed by Tony Award winner Rebecca Taichman, the play centers around an exclusive boarding school in Ghana, where Paulina (MaameYaa Boafo) is queen bee. Her reign is threatened by the mid-year arrival of Ericka (Nabiiyah Be), who catches the attention of her peers and a pageant recruiter.
