Broadway Horoscope: Audra McDonald Edition | Playbill

Playbill Horoscopes Broadway Horoscope: Audra McDonald Edition In honor of the six-time Tony winner's birthday earlier this month, which show featuring Audra McDonald aligns with your astrological sign?

Six-time Tony winner Audra McDonald celebrated her birthday July 3, so we took a look at her 12 Broadway credits and determined which fit best with each astrological sign. If you want to enjoy more of her work, flip through this gallery of moments from her career.

Aries
(March 21–April 19)
Lady Day at Emerson's Bar and Grill
Aries are well-known for their courage, confidence, and inner-strength, making them trendsetters and trailblazers like Billie Holiday—not to mention she was an Aries herself. While Holiday experienced racism and sexism during her career—as well as struggles with alcohol and drug addictions—she continued to pick herself up and eventually did see commercial success. Here, Audra explored this juxtaposition of Holiday's professional highs and personal lows with the fire and passion of an Aries, winning her a sixth Tony Award.

Taurus
(April 20–May 20)
Frankie and Johnny in the Clair de Lune
Tauruses are hard-working, salt-of-the-earth people, with sound-judgment and a no-nonsense attitude. Like Frankie in Frankie and Johnny in the Claire de Lune, Tauruses appreciate anything and everything that delights the senses, whether it’s good food or a beautiful song (like Debussy's “Claire de Lune,” for example). And, like most Tauruses, Frankie does not react well to surprises or dramatic announcements (like a first-date announcing he thinks they’re soulmates), and she struggles with opening up to new people. But, in true Taurus fashion, Frankie has a great judge of character, and she is eventually won over by Johnny’s genuine nature and commitment to her.

Gemini
(May 21–June 20)
110 in the Shade
Geminis are charismatic, outspoken, and free-spirited souls who won’t be contained by worrying about what others think of them. Like Lizzie Curry in the musical 110 in the Shade, Gemini are witty (and often sharp-tongued), and won’t settle for anything less than they deserve. Lizzie is a feisty spinster living in small-town Texas during the 1930s, and though she has a few romantic prospects, she refuses anyone who won’t let her be herself. She eventually finds herself drawn to Starbuck, a con-man claiming to be a rainmaker, and even though she isn’t fooled for a second by his scheme—in true Gemini fashion—she gives him a chance to demonstrate his good qualities, and in turn he allows her to discover a softer side to herself that she never knew she had.

Cancer
(June 21–July 22)
The Secret Garden
Cancers are attached to family life and value creating a home. They are also very intuitive and in-touch with their emotional needs as well as others. In The Secret Garden, Ayah was the nanny to Mary Lennox, taking care of matters at home while Mary lived in India. After a cholera outbreak and Mary is sent to live with her uncle Archibald Craven and his son Colin, Ayah becomes one of the "Dreamers," who are spirits from Mary's past who guide her as she acclimates to her new life. (Note: Audra McDonald is not pictured below because she was a replacement.)

Leo
(July 23–August 22)
Master Class
Confident, determined, and vivacious, Leos are born for a life in the spotlight. When they have a goal in mind, they will pour every part of themselves into pursuing it, regardless of the personal cost—much like the character of Sharon in Master Class. Sharon is one of a select group of students whose talent lands her the opportunity to take a master class under the world-famous opera diva Maria Callas. Of all the students in the master class, Sharon alone has the fearlessness to sing Lady Macbeth's aria "Vieni! t'affretta"— one of Callas’ signature songs. Sharon endures her teacher’s blistering criticisms for the sake of her art up to a point, but in true Leo fashion, she has the ability to give as well as gets, and Sharon refuses to be diminished. This role won Audra the 1996 Tony Award for Best Featured Actress in a Play, her second Tony win.

Virgo
(August 23–September 22)
A Raisin in the Sun
The systematic and pragmatic nature of Virgos leads them to perfecting the situations they're in—working hard to ensure everything is as it should be. Ruth Younger in A Raisin in the Sun maintains the Younger household with strength and vigilance. On top of that, she worked cleaning the homes of rich white families, pushing herself to secure her own family a financially stable home—but that doesn't mean she doesn't speak her mind, as when expressing her frustrations to Walter. This role won Audra the 2004 Tony Award for Best Featured Actress in a Play, marking her fourth Tony win.

Libra
(September 23–October 22)
Henry IV
Deeply intelligent, verbally clever, and masters of persuasion, Libras are among the the most gifted speakers of the zodiac. Naturally, they would have the most in common with Henry IV’s Lady Percy. Years of being married to the quick-tempered and overly-courageous Hotspur (better know as Prince Hal’s rival, Henry Percy), has taught Lady Percy the power of social savvy and diplomacy. Though she is unsuccessful at persuading her husband from challenging his rival (which ultimately results in his death), she manages to convince her father-in-law to wait out the remaining rebellion in Scotland so their interests aren’t entirely lost. Through all of the trials of Henry IV Parts I and II, Lady Percy demonstrates a Libra’s cool-headedness and interest in strategy.

Scorpio
(October 23–November 21)
Ragtime
Because Scorpios are water signs, they feel their emotions deeply and passionately, much like Ragtime's Sarah. During the course of the musical, we witness Sarah getting swept up in her all-consuming devotion to those she loves most—occasionally at the expense of herself or other people she loves. However, like a true Scorpio, she's never too proud to admit her mistakes and will do everything in her power to right any wrongs she's committed. Ultimately, Sarah's love gives her the courage to demand change, sacrificing herself in the process. This role won Audra the 1998 Tony Award for Best Featured Actress in a Musical, marking her third Tony win.

Sagittarius
(November 22–December 21)
Carousel
Energetic and curious, Sagittarians are always seeking their next adventure. When we first meet the lighthearted and spunky Carrie Pipperidge in Carousel, she is optimistically envisioning her life with her new beau, Mr. Enoch Snow. Jovial and enthusiastic, Carrie enjoys the new experiences life can bring her—whether it's planning her family or encountering New York showgirls. Because she understands how exciting life can be, she makes an effort to ensure her best friend Julie Jordan is enjoying it, too. This role won Audra the 1994 Tony Award for Best Featured Actress in a Musical, her first Tony win.

Capricorn
(December 22–January 19)
Shuffle Along, Or, the Making of the Musical Sensation of 1921 and All That Followed
Patient and practical, Capricorns work hard behind the scenes and let their success do the talking. Shuffle Along, Or, the Making of the Musical Sensation of 1921 and All That Followed examines the work that went into the making of the hit musical, as well as the lives of the artists involved. Lottie Gee, specifically, had worked her way up from dancing in Aida Overton Walker's show to starring Shuffle Along. Capricorns can appreciate the diligence and ambition of this Audra character and the entire Shuffle Along company.

Aquarius
(January 20–February 18)
Marie Christine
Aquarians are imaginative people who dream big, think out of the box, and who love acquiring rare knowledge—much like the titular character of Marie Christine. A retelling of Medea set in turn-of-the-century New Orleans, Marie Christine centers on a passionate young woman who dreams of a life of adventure with her sea-captain lover, Dante. In true Aquarius fashion, she won’t let anything stand in the way of her vision of her perfect life, so she uses her knowledge of ancient magics against anyone who would stop her. When Dante eventually decides to leave her for another woman and take their two children, she weaves an elaborate revenge plot.

Pisces
(February 19–March 20)
The Gershwins' Porgy and Bess
Pisces are kind, empathetic dreamers, famed for their sensitivity and desire for comfort and safety. In Porgy and Bess, when Bess is first abandoned in the small town of Catfish Row, she projects a scrappy, feisty persona. However, Porgy’s kindness and willingness to give her a place to stay allows Bess to break down her walls to reveal a more tenderhearted and sweet nature. She transforms from a social pariah to a beloved member of the community. Pisces will relate to Bess’ desire for security and how a tight-knit community allows her to blossom into her truest self. This role won Audra the 2012 Tony Award for Best Leading Actress in a Musical, marking her fifth Tony win.
