The actress' return makes Broadway history, marking the first time two Mexican-born actors lead a Broadway musical. Marroquín joins current Billy Flynn, Jaime Camil, for 26 performances only. Camil will end his run in the show July 31, and Marroquín will continue in hers through August 21.
Born in Monterrey, Mexico, Marroquin began her stage career in Mexico City in productions of Beauty and the Beast, Rent, The Vagina Monologues, The Phantom of the Opera and Chicago. Her other Broadway credits include In the Heights (Daniela) and The Pajama Game (Carmen).
The Broadway production of Chicago also currently stars Amra-Faye Wright as Velma Kelly, Raymond Bokhour as Amos Hart, NaTasha Yvette Williams as Matron “Mama” Morton and R. Lowe as Mary Sunshine.
With a book by Ebb and Fosse, music by Kander and lyrics by Ebb, Chicago is now the longest-running American musical in Broadway history. The hit musical plays the Ambassador Theatre.
