Becca Blackwell, star and writer of They, Themself and Schmerm (seen at Joe's Pub), will lead the cast of the New York Theatre Workshop and WP Theater co-production of Hurricane Diane, the newest work from Pulitzer Prize finalist Madeleine George. Billed as a "hilarious evisceration of the blind eye we all turn to climate change," the new play will be directed by Tony nominee Leigh Silverman.

Hurricane Diane will begin previews February 6 with an opening night set for February 24 at NYTW. The play will receive a second co-production, with details to be announced at a later date.

Blackwell—who uses the pronouns they/them/their—will star as Diane, permaculture gardener "dripping with butch charm." Diane also possesses supernatural abilities owing to her true identity—the Greek god Dionysus—and she's returned to the modern world to gather mortal followers and restore the Earth to its natural state. Where better to begin than with four housewives in a suburban New Jersey cul-de-sac?

They will be joined by Mia Barron (The Wolves), Michelle Beck (A Raisin in the Sun), Danielle Skraastad (All My Sons), and Kate Wetherhead (The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee).

Hurricane Diane will feature scenic design by Rachel Hauck (What the Constitution Means to Me), costume design by Kaye Voyce (Hamlet), lighting design by Barbara Samuels (Dance Nation), sound design by Bray Poor (Othello), original music by The Bengsons (Hundred Days), and choreography by Raja Feather Kelly (The House That Will Not Stand). Melanie J. Lisby (Pacific Overtures) will serve as stage manager.
