International News Baz Luhrmann’s Strictly Ballroom Stage Musical Heading to London’s West End The stage musical adaptation of the 1992 Australian film about the world of competitive ballroom dancing has set dates for a London arrival.

The stage musical adaptation of Baz Luhrmann’s 1992 film Strictly Ballroom, which premiered in Sydney, Australia in 2014, and was seen in a revised Toronto staging this past summer, will arrive in London's West End, beginning performances March 16, 2018, at the Piccadilly Theatre, according to Baz Bamigboye.

The musical, which was first adapted for the stage by Luhrmann and Craig Pearce, has undergone revisions since its 2014 Sydney premiere. Subsequent productions, including a U.K. premiere at the West Yorkshire Playhouse in Leeds earlier this year feature a new book adaptation by Terry Johnson.

Drew McOnie directs and choreographs.

Luhrmann co-wrote and directed the original 1992 film about the world of competitive ballroom dancing, which was first conceived and presented as a stage play.

Catherine Martin, who designed the 1992 film, is the show’s costume designer. Sets are by Soutra Gilmour.
