The new musical Amélie will soon bid “adieu” to Broadway. The stage adaptation of the Oscar-nominated film will play its final performance May 21 at the Walter Kerr Theatre, where it will have played 27 previews and 56 regular performances at the time of closing.
The production, which stars Hamilton Tony nominee Phillipa Soo as the title peculiar and kind-hearted Parisian, did not manage to pick up any Tony Award nominations on May 2, and box office figures indicated the musical did not have as strong of an advance as other 2016-2017 productions.
In addition to Soo, the cast includes Adam Chanler-Berat as Nino, as well as Tony Sheldon, David Andino, Randy Blair, Heath Calvert, Alison Cimmet, Savvy Crawford, Manoel Felciano, Harriett D. Foy, Alyse Alan Louis, Maria-Christina Oliveras, and Paul Whitty.
Amélie features a score by Daniel Messé and Nathan Tysen, a book by Craig Lucas, and direction by Pam MacKinnon.
