Broadway history and American history collided again this week when actor Michael Luwoye became the first actor to play both of Hamilton’s principal male roles.
Cast as the Hamilton alternate, Luwoye has previously gone on in the show’s starring role, which was originated by Lin-Manuel Miranda and is currently played by Javier Muñoz.
Representatives for Hamilton confirmed to Playbill.com that Luwoye made history October 4 when he went on for Brandon Victor Dixon as Aaron Burr for the first time. (The role was originated by Tony Award winner Leslie Odom, Jr.)
“To be faced with the challenge of trying to execute them both with precision [has] been great,” Luwoye told Playbill.com. “I can’t stop expressing my gratitude to be able to be doing both roles and to be a part of this company.”
