The first national tour of the Tony Award-winning musical A Gentleman’s Guide to Love and Murder has recouped its entire capitalization after just over a year on the road.
The tour, which launched September 30, 2015, officially recouped the week of October 25, 2016, during its engagement in Hartford, CT. The musical had its world premiere premiere at Hartford Stage in 2012 prior to arriving on Broadway in the fall of 2013.
The musical has a book by Robert L. Freedman, music by Steven Lutvak and lyrics by Freedman and Lutvak. Darko Tresnjak directs, and Peggy Hickey choreographs.
A Gentleman's Guide to Love and Murder won four 2014 Tony Awards, including Best Musical, Direction of a Musical (Tresnjak), Book of a Musical (Freedman) and Costume Design of a Musical (Linda Cho).
“Hartford audiences were instrumental in setting Gentleman’s Guide on its miraculous path. So getting to celebrate recoupment in this great city is not just exciting for all of us who have been with this show from early on—it’s absolutely poetic,” said producer Joey Parnes in a statement.
The design team includes Alexander Dodge (scenic design), Linda Cho (costume design), Philip S. Rosenberg (lighting design), Dan Moses Schreier (sound design), Aaron Rhyne (projection design), Brian Strumwasser (makeup design), and Charles G. LaPointe (wig design). Orchestrations are by Jonathan Tunick, and vocal arrangements are by Dianne Adams McDowell and Lutvak. Paul Staroba is music supervisor.
