Five-time Tony winner Audra McDonald stars as Billie Holiday in Lanie Robertson's Lady Day at Emerson's Bar and Grill, a one person play with songs that looks at the fading career of the iconic jazz singer and recounts her life story through the songs that made her famous. Playbill sat down with McDonald, Robertson and director Lonny Price to chat about the origins of the play and how this production came together so quickly for it's upcoming run at Broadway's Circle in the Square Theatre.
