Maxine Elliott’s Theatre was built in 1908 and located at 109 W. 39th Street, designed by architects Marshall & Fox. It featured See America First, a musical featuring Cole Porter’s first complete Broadway score. Later, it showcased a young Katharine Hepburn in the play Art and Mrs. Bottle. Other notables who graced the Maxine Elliott’s Theatre stage included Helen Hayes in Coquette and Ethel Barrymore in The Constant Wife. The venue later housed Lillian Hellman’s The Children’s Hour. In 1956, Maxine Elliott’s Theatre was a CBS broadcasting studio at the time it was demolished.
