The Moors
by Jen Silverman
Directed by Josephine Miller, Produced by Uptown One Train Theater
Production dates:
April 3 - 6, 2024; 6 performances | NYC
Summary:
Two spinster sisters, their duplicitous maid, and their introspective dog live in isolation on the bleak English moors, yearning for love and power. That is, until the arrival of a hapless governess and serious-minded moor-hen set them all on a strange and treacherous path. The Moors is a dark comedy about the struggle to be seen and loved in the face of isolation.
Company Statement:
“Uptown One Train” grew from the desire to create a model for exciting, innovative, and collaborative theater-making as early career artists. We’re dedicated to creating theater that is wild and raw, engaging serious questions about the human condition with intention and purpose. We believe that quality need not compromise wellbeing and vice versa, striving to create a product and process that is fruitful for audiences and participants alike. With an array of skills and perspectives, we operate at the nexus of creative and analytical/logistical work. We have the imagination to build an expansive artistic vision and the pragmatism to make it a reality.
Character Descriptions:
Agatha (F, NB): Elder spinster sister. Spidery. Dangerous. Cold.

Rehearsal & Tech Period: February 1 - April 3, approximately 10-15 hours a week.
Actors must be available the weekend of 2/1, weeknights 2/3 - 2/7, as well as all nights of tech (3/31, 4/1, 4/2) and all performances. Outside of these protected dates, actors will be called approx. 2-3 times a week. While we are invested in committed production partners, we also are flexible and encourage early communication about any potential conflicts (we want to work it out!)
This production calendar is compatible with a typical 40-hour work week.
Note: this is an amateur, non-equity production seeking five non-AEA actors for a variety of roles. We are unable to provide compensation. Through our fundraising efforts and ticket-sales, we hope to raise enough to allocate participating actors a modest stipend. However, we cannot promise so at this time. If you are interested in participating in the production in a non-acting role please email or dm us! We are actively filling production team responsibilities.
"The Moors" is presented by arrangement with Concord Theatricals on behalf of Samuel French, Inc. www.concordtheatricals.com
