Equity actors for roles in THE COTTAGE (See breakdown).
All roles will be understudied.
In casting The Cottage, Virginia Repertory Theatre endeavors to be as inclusive as possible. We invite all performers, including gender non-conforming, genderqueer, transgender, and non-binary actors, to audition for the roles they most identify with.
We will also list race/ethnicity when specific to the character but are otherwise seeking all races and ethnicities.
PREPARATION
Please prepare a 1-minute comedic monologue and have a 1-minute contrasting monologue prepared, if requested.

THE COTTAGE
SEEKING:
SYLVIA: Mid 20s - 40s, any ethnicity, female identifying. “A lovely and rash romantic.” Her effervescent optimism swings ever upward before sharply turning when she feels left out in the cold.
BRITISH RP ACCENT. This role requires physical intimacy (kissing, romantic contact, and intimate chemistry with and without touch). This role requires a moment of stage combat (a slap).
BEAU: Mid 20s - 40s, any ethnicity, male identifying. Perhaps the best-looking man in Britain.” Beau has made peace with maintaining the status quo publicly by giving in to his personal desires privately. BRITISH RP ACCENT. This role requires physical intimacy (kissing, romantic contact, and intimate chemistry with and without touch).
MARJORIE: Mid 20s - 40s, any ethnicity, female identifying. “Eight months pregnant, pragmatic, and a tad spicy.” Practical Marjorie calls it like it is and is generally unshakeable (unless in labor). BRITISH RP ACCENT. This role requires physical intimacy (kissing, romantic contact, and intimate chemistry with and without touch). This role requires staged movement, suggesting an oncoming birth.
CLARKE: Mid 20s - 40s, any ethnicity, male identifying. “A distinguished gent with a lover’s spirit.” He’s kind-hearted and endlessly polite, while maintaining the very British “stiff upper lip.” BRITISH RP ACCENT. This role requires physical intimacy (kissing, romantic contact, and intimate chemistry with and without touch).
DEIRDRE: 20s - 30s, any ethnicity, female identifying. “An awfully pretty, sometimes wise, nincompoop.” Easily confused and occasionally brilliant, Deirdre is a gullible gal navigating who and what she perceives as higher-class folks. BRITISH ACCENT RP/ WORKING CLASS. This role requires physical intimacy (kissing, romantic contact, and intimate chemistry with and without touch). This role requires stage combat (slapping, falling, fainting, and the handling of a prop firearm).
RICHARD: 30s - 40s, any ethnicity, male identifying. “A murderous, yet gentle soul.” A little rough around the edges, with a sensitive heart, Richard has built a life on lies and is trying to find his way back to the love of his life. BRITISH ACCENT RP/ WORKING CLASS. This role requires physical intimacy (kissing, romantic contact, and intimate chemistry with and without touch). This role requires stage combat (handling of a prop firearm).
