The Bronx K-12 Technical Theatre Supervisor is a school-based role that additionally oversees and provides supplemental guidance for all K-12 Bronx Campus technical theatre objectives related to the auditorium. This role reports to Success Academy’s Theater Program Manager. This role will be salary-based and required to attend rehearsals that take place after school-based hours and occasionally other duties during the day affiliated with the assembly/maintenance of productions. This role is managed by the Theatre Program Manager.

Roles and Responsibilities

We are seeking a results-driven Technical Theatre Supervisor to serve as the resident technical expert and facility manager for our Bronx K-12 campus. This is not just a "behind-the-scenes" role; it is a leadership position that ensures our scholars perform in professional-grade environments. You will be responsible for the end-to-end technical execution of theatrical productions, high-stakes keynote events, and daily school-wide assemblies.

1. Technical Design & Production Execution

  • Lighting Design: Conceptualize, hang, circuit, and program lighting plots for all campus productions. Must be proficient in the ETC (Electronic Theatre Controls) ecosystem, including EOS-family consoles.
  • Sound Engineering: Manage live sound reinforcement and playback. This includes mic’ing performers, mixing live musical theatre/performances on Yamaha digital consoles, and maintaining signal chain integrity.
  • Multimedia & Projection: Oversee the integration of digital media, projection mapping, and QLab (or similar) workflows for performances and presentations.
  • Rigging & Safety: Maintain and operate theatrical rigging systems, ensuring all overhead equipment is secured and meets industry safety standards.

2. Asset Management & Operations

  • Preventative Maintenance: Establish a rigorous schedule for diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining all AV and stage equipment (lighting fixtures, wireless mics, cables, and scenic tools).
  • Inventory Control: Maintain a meticulously organized digital inventory of all technical assets. Oversee the procurement of expendables (gels, tape, batteries) and advise on long-term capital equipment upgrades.
  • Space Stewardship: Act as the "warden" of the auditorium; ensure the space is strike-ready after events and that all school-wide staff follow proper safety and equipment protocols.

3. Leadership & Collaboration

  • Cross-Functional Partnership: Collaborate with the School Operations Team to schedule space usage and ensure the technical needs of non-theatre events (Keynote speakers, graduations) are met.
  • Educational Support: Provide supplemental guidance and "on-the-job" training to theater teachers or scholars interested in the technical arts.
  • Rehearsal & Event Supervision: Manage the technical requirements of after-school rehearsals and performances, ensuring a professional atmosphere for scholars and staff.

Candidate Requirements

Technical Expertise

  • Professional Pedigree: Significant professional credit in technical theatre or a degree from a rigorous technical theatre program.
  • Console Mastery: Proven experience programming on ETC lighting boards and mixing on Yamaha digital sound boards is required.
  • Versatility: Ability to pivot from the "fine-tuning" of a lighting cue to the manual labor of assembly and maintenance.

Mindset & Leadership

  • The ETHOS Standard: You embody Excellence, Teamwork, Humor, Ownership, and Scholar-first decision-making.
  • High Agency: You don’t wait for things to break; you anticipate needs and "own" the results of the space.
  • Communication: You have the confidence to lead a room and the presence to represent the Arts program to school leadership.

Physical & Logistical Requirements

  • Valid Driver’s License: Required for potential travel between sites or picking up supplies.
  • Physicality: Ability to lift up to 40 lbs, climb ladders, and work in elevated spaces (grids/catwalks).
  • Flexibility: Availability for evening and occasional weekend hours to support the production calendar.

Exact compensation may vary based on skills and experience.
