Technical Director : Camp Merrie-Woode Summer 2025

Camp Merrie-Woode is a residential girls summer camp offering a full range of activities for girls ages 7-17. This is a seasonal position.

The Technical Director is responsible for the construction, mounting, rigging, maintenance and execution of all scenic, props, lighting, and sound elements in camp productions.

The Technical Director helps to create a positive working environment and is a positive role model for staff and campers.

Pre-Production Period:

Reads and studies the scripts.

Attends Drama Pre-Orientation.

Meet with the Director to determine the concept for the show within which all designers will work.

Attend all design and production meetings.

Compiles a list of all needed materials.

Responsible for ensuring that all equipment is in good working condition ready for use. If items need repair or need to be replaced, the Technical Director should notify the Head of Drama & Director, Production Manager, and Camp’s Program Director.

Creates and sets a build schedule with Director and Production Manager.

Attends Casting Session.

Rehearsal Period:

Supervises the construction of sets, scenic elements, and props, as well as lighting and sound design, and ensures that all projects are completed on time.

Manages shop space and tools.

Delegate duties and tasks to Assistant Technical Director accordingly.

Attends all design and production meetings.

Oversee individual projects throughout classes and the workday.

Construct special projects as assigned.

Coordinate with all production team members to discuss potential challenges associated with the build. Remember that the shop and Castle are used as classrooms and rehearsal spaces each day, and therefore must be left clean and secure.

Verify at the end of each day that the tool room is in order and tools are properly stored away.

Makes recommendations regarding Running Crew positions.

Attends the Designer Run.

Attends weekly Drama/Production Staff meetings.

Dress Rehearsal/Performance Period:

Attend all tech and dress rehearsals, and assist in taking notes during the rehearsal. Remember all actor impedance and safety notes must go to the top of the list.

Takes note of any technical problems, unfinished details, painting touch ups, and/or changes and communicates these to the Director, Production Manager, and Stage Manager.

Attends photo call to get photographs of your designs.

Post Production Period:

In conjunction with the Director, Production Manager and Stage Manager, coordinate strike.

Decide what will be saved and what will be thrown away, along with specific storage needs.

Ensures that all materials, set pieces, equipment, etc. is returned to storage in good condition.

SALARY

$300.00 – $450.00 per week
