Stage Door Associate
Theatre Row, a program of the non-profit Building for the Arts NY, Inc. (BFA), is an Off-Broadway multi-theater complex in the heart of the Theater District that serves as an affordable home for performing arts organizations, and a lively, accessible venue for diverse audiences.
Located just two blocks from Times Square, Theatre Row’s six theaters, five rehearsal studios, and nine offices are rented by over 100 theatre and performance arts companies each year, bringing over 125,000 patrons to Theatre Row annually.
BFA is seeking a part-time Stage Door Associate (SDA). The SDAs are responsible for handling building access for renters, resident companies, and staff. This position primarily supports the Operations and Production Departments. Successful candidates are enthusiastic about theatre, have an interest in venue management, and some experience working directly with patrons, clients, or in another customer service environment.
This is a part-time, hourly, non-exempt position. SDAs report to the Operations Manager. SDAs are typically scheduled for 7 to 21 hours per week, with occasional opportunities to cover additional shifts; a shift is typically 7 to 8 hours. Theatre Row operates from 9:30am to 11:00pm, seven days a week.
Some holidays will be required.
All employees of BFA will be required to provide proof of vaccination (or provide a medical or religious exemption) to enter the building.
Responsibilities of the Stage Door Associate include, but are not limited to:
Allowing access to the building and the rehearsal studios for renters and staff
Screening new arrivals for vaccination status, if required
Receiving deliveries and contacting the appropriate department or production
Monitoring building security cameras
Keeping an accurate sign in/sign out sheet for all renters and guests in the building
Qualifications:
Experience working in customer service or patron services
Ability to prioritize, troubleshoot, and remain calm during emergencies or stressful situations
Familiarity with both commercial and non-profit theatre best practices
Team player
Reception experience is a plus
Pay: This position is paid $19 per hour and does not qualify for benefits.
