DESCRIPTION

We are looking for songwriters, composers, and lyricists to compete in Showpeople Songwriting Showdown, a competition webshow about writing original musical theatre songs off of silly generated prompts!

Showpeople Songwriting Showdown (also known as "SSS" - read aloud as “Triple S” or occasionally just as a hissing sound) is a reality tv/game show-style web series where teams of songwriters write brand new music. Their new songs are then put head to head and scored by a panel of judges, including theatrical influencers, members of the Showpeople Theatre Collective, and other surprising names!

Watch our previous season here.

- The GRAND PRIZE for the winning team is having your song performed live at one of NYC's premier cabaret venues!

- Finalists will have their fully-produced, fully-orchestrated demos released on streaming platforms.

- Teams who make it past the first elimination will have demos of their songs produced with professional vocalists.

EVERYONE involved will be welcomed into the Showpeople community as valued members and people we will invite to future projects! Last year one of the songs was even expanded to be a workshopped musical produced by Showpeople!

Composers and lyricists (often paired in teams) will be at the episode filming Zoom meetings, the mornings of 4/12, 4/19, 5/3, 5/17, and 5/31, unless eliminated during episodes before the finale. They will then write based on their prompt assignments during the weeks of 4/13, 4/20, 5/4, and 5/18 (note that most times writers have a week off from any committment after writing).

Showpeople Theatre Collective is a community of artists based around the New York area specializing in creating new art. Their original, award-winning musicals have been performed in festivals, cabarets, and more! This year they are celebrating 5 years of creating theatre, and are excited to bring more creative people into the collective! This is a great opportunity to join a supportive, eager, collaborative community.
