Puppetsburg does interactive puppet shows for 0-5yrs and is looking for new performers! Our shows are contemporary and super fun for munchkins and adults alike, and performers of all backgrounds are welcome. No puppeteering experience is necessary, and in fact, an improv background is often the biggest asset.

Regular shifts each pay $52-$110 or more per gig including a 30m rehearsal/ setup before each 45m show. (Though your initial 12 training shifts will pay minimum $35.) Some days you may have several gigs in a row. We’re looking for swing performers to pick up shifts once and awhile as well as those interested in taking on regular shifts.

Shows are usually in the mornings or at 4pm, both weekdays and weekends. If we onboard you, we can work around your schedule and offer shifts only when you are available, but we ask once you confirm a shift you stick with it. We currently have between 12-20 shows/ week.

Tell us why you're interested in working with Puppetsburg and mention any experience working you have with toddlers/kids. Please include a brief and very casual “audition” using a sock on your hand as a "puppet" (no decoration needed) telling us in a line or two what they're gonna have for dinner or something that happened on the subway. This is your chance to make a strong choice to create a character, to show puppet/ mouth movement skills, and to showcase your improv skills + sense of humor. Puppetsburg isn’t a traditional puppet show; it’s a tactile, interactive performance experience. We are training the youngest audiences to appreciate theater, helping them with early socialization, as well as practice skills like hand-eye coordination, fine motor skills, rhythm, and introducing them to basic elements of storytelling. We also engage basic math and science, and expand vocabulary, hygiene, and language awareness. Puppetsburg is contemporary cultural education, preparing munchkins to be New York + world citizens.

We hope to inspire kids to love theater and storytelling. We hope to give parents something to look forward to, and the therapy of a good belly laugh. We hope to foster community. We hope to create authentic, in-person memories of tactile experience in a digital age. We hope to model engagement with topics parents may struggle with by breaking down complicated subjects. And we hope to expose families to multicultural and inclusive world views that challenge them to lead with empathy.
