SEEKING:

ELVIS – 20s; male; singer/guitar player. Elvis in his 20s at the beginning of his career. Familiar with his music and able to play guitar; sounds and look somewhat like Elvis without being an “impersonator.” In the production, Elvis sings: “Memories Are Made Of This,” “That’s All Right,” “Long Tall Sally,” “Peace In The Valley,” “Party,” and “Hound Dog.”

JERRY LEE LEWIS – 20s-early 30s; male; singer/pianist; he was rock ‘n’ roll’s legendary piano prodigy and celebrated “Last Man Standing.” A superb piano player, able to play like Jerry Lee Lewis; fun, energetic; comic skills a plus. In the production, Jerry Lee Lewis sings: “Real Wild Child,” “Great Balls Of Fire,” and “Whole Lotta Shakin’ Goin’ On.”

CARL PERKINS – mid 20s; male; singer/guitar player (lead guitar); he was the American pioneer of rockabilly music and best known for his song “Blue Suede Shoes.” An excellent lead guitarist. In the production, Carl Perkins sings: “Matchbox,” “Who Do You Love?,” “My Babe,” and “See You Later, Alligator.”

JOHNNY CASH – late 20s-late 30s; male; singer/guitar player. Johnny Cash at the dawn of his epic career. Familiar with his music and able to play guitar; tall; sounds and look somewhat like Johnny without being an “impersonator.” In the production, Johnny Cash sings: “Folsom Prison Blues,” “Sixteen Tons,” “I Walk The Line,” and “Riders In The Sky.”


Note: The following roles have been cast:

SAM PHILLIPS (CAST) – mid-30s-40s; “Father of Rock ‘n’ Roll” and founder of Sun Records who discovered Elvis Presley, Johnny Cash, Jerry Lee Lewis, Carl Perkins, and many others including Roy Orbison and B.B. King; a towering and charismatic figure in American music.

DYANNE (CAST)– 20s-early 30s; An excellent singer; she was an aspiring singer and Elvis’s girlfriend; ahead of her time and assertive, she’s a great singer with a wide range; sings solos and back-up throughout the show; sings “Fever” in her alto range and covers the high soprano part of “Riders In The Sky” (Johnny Cash song). In the production, Dyanne sings “Fever” and “I Hear You Knockin’.”


CHICAGO

VELMA KELLY: Female, 20s-30s, any race/ethnicity, (Range: Alto, E3-D5) Vaudeville performer who is accused of murdering her sister and husband. Hardened by fame, she cares for no one but herself and her attempt to get away with murder. An exceptional dancer who sings extremely well.

MATRON "MAMA" MORTON: Female, 30s-50s, any race/ethnicity, (Range: Alto, F#3-Bb4) Leader of the prisoners of Cook County Jail. The total essence of corruption. Accepts bribes for favors from laundry service to making calls to lawyers. “When you’re good to Mama, Mama’s good to you.”

BILLY FLYNN: Male, 30s-40s, any race/ethnicity, (Range: Baritone Bb2-G4) Established lawyer who hasn’t lost a woman’s case yet. Master of media manipulation who will get a girl off the hook as long as she can fork up the hefty $5,000 fee.

MARY SUNSHINE: Male in drag (countertenor/male soprano), 20s-40s, any race/ethnicity, (Range: Soprano, Bb3-Bb5) Sob sister reporter from the Evening Star. Believes there is a little bit of good in everyone and will believe anything she is fed that matches her beliefs.

ROXIE HART (CAST): Female, 20s-30s, any race/ethnicity, (Range: Mezzo-Soprano, F3-B4) Reads and keeps up with murder trials in Chicago, and follows suit by murdering her lover, Fred Casely. She stops at nothing to render a media storm with one goal: to get away with it.

AMOS HART (CAST): Male, 30s-40s, any race/ethnicity, (Range: Baritone, C3-F#4) Roxie’s faithful husband. Lies for her and tries to take the blame until he realizes that he has been two-timed by Roxie. Still in love with her, or misguided, he believes anything she says in her pursuit to get out of jail.

IGOR (CAST)– Male- Frederick’s faithful, bright-eyed, eager servant and friend–with a hunchback. Vocal range: G4-Bb2.

INSPECTOR HANS KEMP (CAST) – Male- Head of the police in Transylvania, with a wooden arm and leg. Justice-driven. Vocal range: F4-A2.

BLIND HERMIT (CAST)– Male- Lonely, poor, blind town hermit longing for a friend. Vocal range: F4-Ab2.

INGA – Female- Frederick’s bubbly, not-so-bright young assistant. Attractive and a resident of Transylvania. Vocal range: G# below middle C to A above the treble staff. Yodeling is a plus as is a German accent.

ELIZABETH BENNING (CAST) – Female- Self-loving/self-absorbed, “madcap”, boisterous fiancé of Frederick. Vocal range: F5-F#3.

FRAU BLUCHER (CAST)– Female- Intense, stern housekeeper of Frankenstein estate. Former lover of Victor Frankenstein. Vocal range: C5-E3.

SEEKING:

TULLY- Male - Smooth-talking, self-deprecating playboy. He's completely content with the life he's chosen as the singer/bartender at a tropical resort, until he meets Rachel, a vacationer who upends his heart. Guitar skills are useful. Vocal Range: B2-C5

MARLEY- Female - No-nonsense and assertive with an island accent. She runs the resort and keeps everyone in check, but clearly cares about her employees, her customers, and J.D., an older island denizen. Great singer. Vocal Range: G#3-G#5

J.D.- Male - A funny, endearing older man who always has a parrot on his shoulder. He's losing his vision and his hearing, but won't acknowledge it. A good-natured drunkard, he's always writing his memoirs on bar napkins and, as it turns out, he's lived a full life. Vocal Range: G2-D4

RACHEL (CAST)- Female - Fully committed to her job and helping the world. Willing to put in as many hours of hard work as it takes and expects everyone else to do the same. Suspicious of fools and operators, Rachel is not easily distracted from her life plan. Vocal Range: A3-F#5.

TAMMY (CAST)- Female - Loyal friend to Rachel. Sees the best in people and has a zest for life that is often squelched by her fiance, Chad. Her low self-esteem manifests itself as denial in her own life. Vocal Range: B3-F5.

BRICK (CAST)- Male - The Island bartender. Has a big heart and a good friend to Tully. Not the brightest bulb, but sensitive and thoughtful. Vocal Range: A2-C5.

JAMAL/TED (CAST)- Male - Jamal is a high-energy busboy at the run-down Caribbean hotel, acting as a key, comedic right-hand man to hotel owner Marley.


KEN LUDWIG’S BASKERVILLE: A SHERLOCK HOLMES MYSTERY

Wakeman is a new folk-rock musical which centers around the true story of Sarah Rosetta Wakeman, a young woman who presented herself as a man and joined the Union Army during the Civil War. Her adventures are forever captured in a series of letters written to her family chronicling her daily life as Private Lyons Wakeman in the 153rd New York infantry. Original songs by lyricist/composer Jenn Grinels bring to life this tale of identity and the pursuit of the American Dream.
