Corny Collins: The charismatic host of the Corny Collins' Show. Good looking and smooth talking, he is a genuinely nice guy both on and off camera. (Male presenting, age 25 to 35)

Edna Turnblad: Tracy's big and blonde mother. She is a working housewife who has lost her confidence and dream to be a plus-size clothing designer. Boisterous and commanding. Often played by a male in drag. (age 30 to 50). Strong comedic singer.

Penny Pingleton: Tracy's best friend and dorky sidekick. Not the brightest girl, but she has good intentions. Bursting to get free of her mother's dominating control, she falls for Seaweed with childlike curiosity. (Female presenting, age 15 to 20)

Velma Von Tussle: Amber's mother and the director of Corny Collin's show. She is a devious taskmaster and snobby racist. The former Miss Baltimore Crabs will go to any length to ensure her daughter is the next big thing. (Female presenting, age 45 to 55). Strong comedic timing and strong singer.

Amber Von Tussle: Link's girlfriend and Tracy's nemesis. She is pretty, thin, shallow, snobby, and racist. Can't dance but is expected to win Miss Baltimore Hairspray. Always feels the need to be the center of attention. (Female presenting, age 15 to 20)

Link Larkin: The star heartthrob on Corny Collins' show. He is extremely attractive and talented. Hoping to get his big break with a recording contract, he unexpectedly falls for Tracy. (Male presenting, age 15 to 20)

Seaweed J. Stubbs: Tracy's classmate and friend, who is discriminated against due to his skin color. He is cocky but surprisingly lovable. Talented in song and dance. He falls for Penny. (Male presenting, African American, age 15 to 20)

Little Inez: Seaweed's little sister. (Female presenting, African American)

Motormouth Maybelle: Seaweed and Little Inez's mother, she also appears as the Guest DJ on the Corny Collin's Negro Day show. Big, blonde, beautiful and proud of it. She is sassy and confident. (Female presenting, African American, age 40 to 50) Strong singer

Wilbur Turnblad: Tracy's simpleminded and kind father. He owns a joke shop and supports his daughter in spite of everything else. He also loves his wife, Edna, very much. (Male presenting, age 55 to 65)

Prudy Pingleton: Penny's strict mother. Very conservative, controlling, and closed minded. (Female presenting, age 40 to 50)

Elvis Presley: the first and still undisputed king of Rock ‘n’ Roll. Magnetic, charming, and playful. Effortlessly cool with immense natural charisma. Must evoke Elvis’s iconic sound, movement, and swagger without impersonation. (Male presenting, early 20s). Strong vocals and acoustic guitar skills.

Jerry Lee Lewis: Rock ‘n’ Roll's legendary piano prodigy and celebrated Last Man Standing. Explosive, cocky, and electrifying. A wild virtuoso with fearless energy and humor. Requires exceptional piano skills and stamina. (Male presenting, early to mid 20s)

Carl Perkins: lead guitar player, the first poet of Rock ‘n’ Roll. Thoughtful, sincere, and hardworking. A talented songwriter grappling with fame and insecurity. Strong rockabilly guitarist and vocalist. (Male presenting, mid 20s)

Johnny Cash: guitar player, a giant of American music at the dawn of his epic career. Charismatic, introspective, and rebellious. Strong rhythmic guitar player with commanding stage presence. Must capture Cash’s vocal style and persona while remaining grounded and truthful. (Male presenting, age 20-30).

Sam Phillips: “Father of Rock ‘n’ Roll” and founder of Sun Records who discovered Elvis Presley, Johnny Cash, Jerry Lee Lewis, Carl Perkins, and many others including Roy Orbison and B.B. King; a towering and charismatic figure in American music. (Male presenting, 30-35). Singing required, but limited.

Dyanne: an aspiring singer and Elvis’s girlfriend, Confident, sultry. Strong rockabilly, blues vocalist. (Female presenting, any race/ethnicity, mid 20s)

Brother Jay: strong bass player, brother of Carl Perkins (Male presenting, mid 20s)

Fluke: strong drummer (Male presenting, any race/ethnicity, mid 20s)

Claude: The gregarious and well-liked Mayor of Gander, Newfoundland, Claude loves his work, the townspeople, and his daily traditions, but he has never had to deal with a crisis of this magnitude before. (Male presenting, any race/ethnicity, age 40–60s

Bonnie: A no-nonsense SPCA worker in Gander who becomes a fierce caretaker for the many stranded animals during the crisis. Direct, warm, and deeply compassionate beneath her blunt exterior. (Female presenting, any race/ethnicity, age 35-45)

Beulah: The head of the Gander Legion with a firefighter son, who walks Hannah to her church and prays with her. (Female presenting, any race/ethnicity, age 40–60s)

Oz: The gruff, practical police constable in Gander. Oz initially resists the chaos brought by the planes but ultimately reveals a deeply caring and generous heart. (Male presenting, any race/ethnicity, age 30s-50s)

Doug: An air traffic controller, married to Bonnie, who tries to help his wife and the animals. (Male presenting, any race/ethnicity, 35-45)

Janice: An eager new local TV reporter. Janice is thrown into the deep end on her first day. Initially naive about the world, Janice must face the pain and confusion around her. (Female presenting, any race/ethnicity, age 20s)

Annette: A local teacher at the Gander Academy and mother to a lot of children (Female presenting, any race/ethnicity, age 40s-60s)

Garth: The head of the local union, representing the Bus Drivers (male presenting, any race/ethnicity, age 30-50s).

Beverly: The first female captain for American Airlines. Pilot, Beverly Bass has always loved flying when her world suddenly changes. (Female presenting, any race/ethnicity, age 50s).

Kevin T.: The head of an environmental energy company in L.A. Kevin was on vacation with his boyfriend and secretary (also called Kevin), when they are stranded in Gander. Inspired by the town’s generosity, Kevin creates the Pay It Forward Foundation (Male presenting, any race/ethnicity, age 30–50s)

Kevin J.: Kevin’s boyfriend and secretary. Sarcastic and unhappy. He wants to leave as soon as possible. (Male presenting, any race/ethnicity, age 30s-40s)

Diane: A recently divorced woman from Texas traveling home after her mother’s death. Diane is guarded, sharp-witted, and gradually opens herself to connection and healing. (Female presenting, any race/ethnicity, age 50s)

Nick: An English oil engineer living and working in Texas. Nick is optimistic, gentle, and deeply empathetic, forming an unexpected bond with Diane. (Male presenting, any race/ethnicity, age 50s)

Hannah: A mother traveling to see her firefighter son. Hannah is quiet, strong, and emotionally reserved, carrying deep anxiety and love beneath her calm demeanor. (Female presenting, any race/ethnicity, age 40–60s)

Bob: A hardened New Yorker and suspicious of where he’s landed, fearing that it’s WWIII, but instead he ends up losing his NYC jadedness. (Male presenting, any race/ethnicity, age 40–60s)

Trey Compton: Director

Please Note: Everyone will be required to play an instrument. “Girl” must play the piano and “Guy” must play the guitar, but other characters may not be set in stone (*e.g., we do need a cast member to play violin/fiddle, but it may be someone other than “Reza,” who traditionally plays that instrument).

Girl: Direct, intelligent, no nonsense, and witty. Should have something ‘other’ about her. Has had to work hard at life but doesn’t think she deserves any sympathy. Plays the piano and sings extremely well. A strong Czech (Eastern European) accent. (Female presenting, any race/ethnicity, age 20 to 35). Mezzo-Soprano.

Guy: A struggling Irish musician. Lost and a bit sad, but extremely appealing. Works with his Da in a vacuum repair shop. Sings and plays guitar extremely well. A strong Irish accent. (Male presenting, any race/ethnicity, age 20 to 35)

Billy: A music store owner who allows Girl to play piano in his shop. Opinionated and loyal to those he cares about. Plays guitar. (Male presenting, any race/ethnicity, age 30 to 50). Strong Irish accent.

Reza: Girl's vivacious and flirtatious roommate. Plays violin. (Female presenting, any race/ethnicity, age 25 to 30). Strong Eastern European accent (Czech)

Baruska: Girl's mother. Loving, generous, and idealistic. Ideal to play accordion and/or piano. (Female presenting, any race/ethnicity, age 45 to 60). Eastern European accent (Czech).

Bank Manager: Corporate on the outside, but artistic on the inside. Plays guitar and cello. (Male presenting, any race/ethnicity, age 30 to 50). Strong Irish accent.

Da: Guy's father. A caring man who loves his son. (Male presenting, any race/ethnicity, age 50 to 70). Ideally plays ukulele/guitar/mandolin. Irish accent.
