POSITION SUMMARY

The Director of Production will oversee all technical aspects of the Production Department including: Backstage operations, use and maintenance of production equipment and facilities; build and sustain a strong production team through recruiting, training, and evaluating all production department employees. Work with COO in strategic planning and budgeting of capital projects involving production facilities. Direct and facilitate the production of shows, performances and events at The Peace Center.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES (Include, but are not limited to)

  • Lead a strong, effective, and efficient Production team. Direct reports include one (1) full-time production manager, six (6) full-time IATSE department heads, and contracted part-time stage crew based on the needs of visiting productions.
  • Liaison between The Peace Center and contracted stagehand provider. Schedule and supervise contract labor to include instructing, planning and assigning work during scheduled calls to ensure proper use of house equipment and efficient use of labor.
  • Assist all Peace Center departments with production related needs to include use of performance space and equipment.
  • Advance and negotiate technical riders with touring companies to assure best possible execution.
  • Ensure touring companies follow house rules relating to outside equipment positioning, sound clarity and db limits.
  • Develop and maintain a sustainable Preventative Maintenance Program for theatrical systems and equipment.
  • Evaluate and recommend production and capital upgrades and purchases and assist the organization in the development of the capital budget.
  • Oversee the project management of the department's capital improvement projects, including reviewing budget reports and tracking and reconciling expenditures.
  • Responsible for developing, documenting and implementing a safety program for all backstage areas, including meeting OSHA requirements, electrical and fire codes. Immediately report any unsafe conditions to the COO.
  • Train staff and stagehands; including fly rail and rigging safety.
  • Handle administrative management relative to production department personnel and office operations.
  • Responsible for purchasing of supplies, materials, and equipment for the department including generating and tracking of P.O.'s.
  • Track all show related expenses for show settlements.
  • Maintaining technical packets for use by road and touring companies.
  • Assist local/resident companies with production related needs at The Peace Center.
  • Maintaining positive relationships and open lines of communications between production and all departments. Foster teamwork and collaboration across all departments.
  • Stay current on industry standards and trends as they pertain to theatrical sound and lighting control systems.
  • Direct the maintenance and repair of equipment in all venues including scheduling annual inspections and maintenance of equipment, rigging, fork lift, genie lifts and motors.
  • As needed and assigned to meet show requirements:
  • Operate sound board;
  • Install, focus and run lighting;
  • Serve as carpenter, fly man, and rigger;
  • Serve as Production Coordinator or Stage Manager.
  • Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Minimum 10 years’ experience in live theater production.
  • 5 Years supervisory experience related to production.
  • College degree in related field preferred.
  • Ability to lead others with confidence and integrity.
  • Critical thinking and good judgement.
  • Working knowledge of technical rider advance preparation.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written with the ability to effectively communicate with individuals at various levels.
  • Good organizational skills.
  • Good computer skills including experience with Microsoft Excel spreadsheets and Word documents.
  • Working knowledge of office tools and equipment.
  • Ability to operate a forklift; certification a plus.
  • Ability to use a variety of industry standard tools, materials, and equipment to complete assigned projects.
  • Able to work a flexible schedule including nights and weekends.
  • Work well under pressure.
  • Ability to sit and stand for long periods of time.
  • Able to lift up to 50 lbs.

SALARY

$95,000.00 – $115,000.00 per year
