DESCRIPTION

Casting 3-4 Skilled Union or Non-Union Puppeteers for swing positions for touring engagements (in the US and abroad) with the eventual opportunity of taking over primary roles in: PACKRAT and PACKRAT: the Quest por la Abundancia, by Concrete Temple Theatre. First tour has PACKRAT in Poland, June 2026.

PACKRAT is a multi-media puppetry play that contemplates humanity’s relationship with the natural world. Inspired by the classic survival and adventure novel, “Watership Down,” PACKRAT follows one peculiar rodent on his vivacious journey to discover the interconnectedness of life. PACKRAT: the Quest por la Abundancia, presented in English and Spanish, is a new intercultural co-production rooted in Indigenous knowledge, ecological awareness, and cross-border artistic collaboration. The narration for both shows is recorded, and as Concrete Temple is collaborating with artists in Mexico, we are interested in meeting puppeteers with Mexican heritage.

There is a stipend payment for each gig, based on the number of performances. Housing, transportation and a per diem will be provided for out-of-town dates/performances.

Auditions will be held: Saturday, March 28th: 2:30-6:00 PM at ART/NY, Spaces@520: 520 8th Avenue, Studio D, Manhattan.

Auditions will be scheduled. You will be scheduled for a 10-minute slot in which you will present your prepared material. Please respond with a resume and headshot to be scheduled.

Audition Preparation:

1. Please prepare a brief one-minute memorized piece of published text from any genre to be performed without a puppet (could be a monologue, a story, a poem).

2. Please prepare a short (no more than 4 minutes in length) puppetry/movement sample in which you bring an inanimate object to life to tell a short simple story. You can use a pre-made puppet or a puppet of your own creation, or simply an everyday object. The object you use is not as important as how you bring the object to life and the story you tell. It is not necessary to incorporate text into this section of the audition.

SALARY

$700.00 – $1,700.00 per gig
