Using the framework of themed weeks, NLBP Summer Camps are a fun and educational opportunity for young people ages 6-11. Camps are designed to be an introduction to various theatrical talents including acting, musical theater, technical theater, playwriting, improvisation, dance, puppetry, and more. A single camp takes place Monday-Friday from 9am–4pm, with a showcase for friends and family at the end of the week. This year, there will be 8 weeks of summer camps. Teaching Artists for NLBP Summer Camps should have at least 1 year of experience in theater education with a passion for working with young artists.
RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
-Plan and execute an engaging and educational week-long curriculum according to the camp title and theme (with guidance and resources provided by the Camps Director)
-Lead and participate in camp activities which include, but are not limited to, singing, dancing, warm-ups and introducing techniques through relevant acting and musical theatre exercises
-Communicate frequently with the Camps Director before camp start date to prepare, approve, and finalize curriculum
-Communicate with co-teacher to collaborate and distribute duties
-Communicate with Camp Leadership to ensure that all materials needed for camp will be provided
-Teach/facilitate your camp according to your prepared and approved curriculum, working toward a 15-minute showcase at the end of the week
-Provide a fun environment for all campers while ensuring the safety and welfare of participants at all times
-Identify and respond to campers’ classroom conduct
-Communicate with parents about participant’s experiences and report concerns to Camp Leadership
-Classroom set-up and clean-up
-Manage attendance and emergency contact information for campers
-Assist with walking the campers from the camp location to the Barn or Barn-related events nearby
-Provide basic first aid if needed
REQUIREMENTS / SKILLS:
-1 year of experience in education and/or youth theater or equivalent
-CPR/First Aid certification a plus
-Must pass a state of New Hampshire background check
-Comfort with creating lessons plans and documenting curriculum
-Ability to motivate, facilitate and direct youth ages 6-11 and create a classroom culture of respect and participation
-Desire to learn and grow in teaching practice
-Excellent classroom management skills
-Ability to work in a rigorous, fast-paced environment
-Work in a team environment with ability to work independently
-Excellent organizational and time management skills
-Strong interpersonal and communication skills
-A sense of humor and fun
COMPENSATION:
-$3,000 for the season based on experience (paid in weekly installments)
-Housing and meals provided (please read our food policy above)
-Travel stipend
