Location: Albany, NY & NYC (Rehearsals in NYC mid-May, full production period May 26 – June 15 in Albany, NY)

Position Overview:

We are seeking an Associate Music Director/Music Assistant for the upcoming production of The Waiting, a new folk musical by EmmaLee Kidwell & Maria Isabella Andreoli. This individual will work closely with the Music Director & Orchestrator to ensure the musical integrity of the production and provide strong music support throughout the process.

Key Responsibilities:

• Collaborate with the Composer and Music Director & Orchestrator to refine and execute the musical vision of the production.

• Assist in music notation, transcriptions, and arrangements in Sibelius.

• Work one-on-one with actors and cast members to teach and refine music, ensuring confidence and clarity in performance.

• Assist the composer in adapting keys and vocal parts as necessary to accommodate a diverse cast across the gender spectrum.

• Lead vocal rehearsals and sectionals as needed.

• Support the integration of live instrumentation, with a focus on guitar-heavy elements within the score.

• Communicate efficiently with the creative and music team and provide solutions for musical challenges.

Qualifications:

• Strong proficiency in Sibelius for music notation, transcriptions, and score modifications.

• Ability and willingness to play acoustic guitar for rehearsals as needed

• Experience with folk, acoustic, and guitar-driven music styles in a theatrical setting.

• Ability to adapt keys and vocal lines for an expansive cast of performers.

• Experience teaching and leading rehearsals for musical theater productions.

• Strong communication and collaboration skills, with a team-player mentality.

Ability to work in both NYC (mid-May rehearsals) and Albany, NY (May 26 – June 15 production period).

Compensation:

• $2,100 stipend

• Housing/accommodations/travel will be provided for the Albany production period if needed.
