It took 20 years to get to Broadway, but Marvin’s Room (currently in previews) will open June 29 starring three-time Emmy nominee Lili Taylor and two-time Emmy nominee Janeane Garofalo.

The two play sisters, one who needs a bone marrow transplant and the other who hasn’t been involved with the family.
“It’s about a family,” said Taylor during an appearance on NBC 4 New York. “They haven’t seen each other for a while, so there’s some tension, but they love each other and are pushing through.”
Taylor and Garofalo step into the parts previously played by Mary Steenburgen and Jean Smart, and Diane Keaton and Meryl Streep in the film version. But Taylor says she doesn’t feel pressure. “First off, I’m stepping in with Janeane Garofalo, who feels like a sister to me. She just feels really familiar,” Taylor said. “Janeane is great because she’s a comedian, so anywhere there is a laugh to mine, she’s finding it. She cracks me up, and I have to kind of keep it down because she’s not cracking me up as my sister, but as Lili she is.”
