In honor of Tony nominees Rachel Chavkin and Dave Malloy’s recognition by Smithsonian magazine, Hamilton’s Lin-Manuel Miranda rewrote the lyrics to “Sonya Alone” from Natasha, Pierre & The Great Comet of 1812 and performed his rendition.
Chavkin and Malloy, both Tony-nominated for their work on Great Comet, received American Ingenuity Awards. Announced as the recipients in April, the ceremony was held November 29 at the National Portrait Gallery.
Called “the Golden Globes of the Intellect,” the awards recognize boundary-pushing individuals and works across nine disciplines, including technology, performing arts, visual arts, life and physical sciences, education, history, social progress, and youth achievement. Established in 2012, Miranda is a past recipient of the honor.
