The Broadway musical Waitress wrapped $1.2 million in ticket sales the day it was announced that composer-lyricist Sara Bareilles would take over the leading role March 31, a production spokesperson confirmed to Playbill.
A production spokesperson said the amount was Waitress’ “best single day ever at the box office.”
Bareilles will replace Jessie Mueller in the role of master pie baker Jenna in the Broadway musical at the Brooks Atkinson Theatre after the Tony-nominated star plays her final performance March 26. Bareilles is scheduled to continue in the role for 10 weeks, through June 11.
