Wendie Malick ("Just Shoot Me!," "Frasier") and Charles Shaughnessy ("The Nanny," "Saints & Sinners") will co-star in the reading as, respectively, Helen Gahagan Douglas and Melvyn Douglas, with Patrick Breen as Richard Nixon and Michael Dutra as JFK and LBJ. The evening, which benefits The Nation Magazine, will begin at 6 PM with a screening of the vice-presidential debates followed by the performance. Katrina vanden Heuvel will host the fundraiser. A panel discussion and a reception in The Landmark Wine Bar will follow the reading.
Don't Blame Me, according to press notes, "follows Helen from an entitled Republican and successful stage actress to an incorruptible liberal congresswoman who stood for education, internationalism, feminism and integration and finally to the 1950 Senate race where Nixon's anti-Communist/anti-Semitic smear campaign ended her political career."
