Starring two-time Emmy Award winner Patricia Heaton as Paula McFadden and stage and film actor Jeff Daniels as Elliott Garfield, "Neil Simon's The Goodbye Girl" will premiere Friday, Jan. 16 at 8 PM ET. Rebroadcasts are scheduled for Jan. 17 at 8 PM and Jan. 18 at 8 PM; check local listings. Neil Simon wrote the screenplay for this contemporary turn on his classic film about a divorcee and an aspiring actor who become unwilling roommates. The cast also includes Hallie Kate Eisenberg as Paula's daughter Lucy and Tony Award winner Alan Cumming as an Off-Broadway director. Richard Benjamin directs.

Richard Dreyfuss and Marsha Mason starred in the original 1977 film. Both Mason and Dreyfuss were nominated for Academy Awards for their work; Dreyfuss took home the Oscar. Bernadette Peters and Martin Short played the lead roles in the 1993 Broadway musical, which featured a score by Marvin Hamlisch and David Zippel. Peters and Short were Tony nominated for their performances.

Grammy Award-winners Hootie and the Blowfish have recorded a remake of David Gates' 1978 single "Goodbye Girl," which will be heard in the film.
