The Acting Company will stage a benefit reading of Alice Scovell's Shakespearean followup Love's Labour's Won September 15 at Hunter College's The Kaye Playhouse. Brian Isaac Phillips will direct.

The work imagines Shakespeare's "lost" sequel to his Love's Labour's Lost, following three couples on the brink of marriage reunited after a year apart. The one-night-only reading will feature Steven Boyer (Kimberly Akimbo), Christian Conn (Desire Under the Elms), Ismenia Mendes (Marys Seacole), and Sarah Stiles (Tootsie).

“I am delighted The Acting Company is presenting this enchanting comedy. It is exactly the kind of 'new' classic The Acting Company continues to champion and a feast of delicious language for actors,” says Artistic Director Kent Gash in a statement. “The Shakespeare comedy we know, Love’s Labour’s Lost, ends with a cliffhanger in which the betrothed couples are divided for a year. Alice Scovell brings these characters back to life so we can finally learn: what will happen when they are finally reunited 12 months later? Wedding bells? Sour notes? We hope you will join us, Brian Isaac Phillips, and his tremendously talented cast to learn, at long last: what will a happy ending look like?”

Sponsor- and premium-level tickets include a post-performance reception with the artists. Visit TheActingCompany.org for more.
