Tevye Served Raw, an evening of Sholem Aleichem material that was seen Off-Broadway in summer 2018, will return to The Playroom Theater (151 W. 46th St.) beginning January 28.
Directed by Allen Lewis Rickman, the production features adaptations of Aleichem's Tevye stories (“What, Me Worthy?” and “Get Thee Gone!”), scenes from his own long-unseen Yiddish stage version, and three of his comedic stories newly adapted (“Strange Jews on a Train,” “The Yiddish Sisyphus,” and “A Stepmother’s Trash-Talk”). Rickman also provided the translations.
The cast includes Allen Lewis Rickman and Yelena Shmulenson (the Yiddish-speaking couple from A Serious Man) and Shane Baker.
The production is performed in English and Yiddish with English supertitles, and features an original score by Alex Ryaboy. Performances continue through February 13.
Tickets are $38 and are available through TevyeServedRaw.com or by calling (800) 838-3006.
