Sam Davis and Patrick O'Neill are collaborating with Open Jar Institute on Time Step Symposium, a roundtable discussion featuring Broadway directors and choreographers and veteran dance arrangers about creating dance music for the stage. The event will take place September 7 at 7 PM at Open Jar Studios.
Susan Stroman (The Producers, Big Fish, Young Frankenstein), Andy Blankenbuehler (Hamilton, Bandstand), JoAnn M. Hunter (Bad Cinderella, School of Rock), Sam Davis (New York, New York), David Krane (Cabaret, The Music Man), and Alex Lacamoire (Hamilton, Dear Evan Hansen) will lead the conversation, highlighting where they find inspiration, how they navigate the creative process, and the necessity of collaboration in bringing magical moments on Broadway to life.
"As emerging choreographers evolve into the creators of tomorrow, an important relationship remains undeveloped, unfostered, and untaught. How do we create original dance music when we need to tell new, inspired stories on stage?" ask event co-producers Davis and O'Neill. They add that the Time Step Symposium will offer "a celebration of the relationship between music and dance on Broadway and beyond by inspiring creatives to continue creation.”
The Time Step Symposium is produced by Open Jar Studios as part of its PRO Masterclass Series.
Attendees can enjoy the symposium in person or online. To RSVP and for more information, visit OpenJarInstitute.com.
