Jake Shears made his Broadway debut in the Tony-winning musical Kinky Boots January 8 in the role of Charlie Price. Shears is the lead singer of the group the Scissor Sisters and recently wrapped up recording his solo album, for release later this year.

The pop star succeeded the role's originator, Stark Sands—who recently returned for a limited run—and will take center stage through April 1 at the Al Hirschfeld Theatre.

J. Harrison Ghee also joined the cast of Kinky Boots January 8, returning to the role of Lola. He succeeded the musical's original Tony-winning star, Billy Porter, who was back in the show for a limited engagement.

In Kinky Boots, Charlie Price is struggling to run his family’s shoe factory. When he meets the dazzling Lola, they discover together that real inspiration comes from being true to yourself. The musical features a Tony Award-winning score by Cyndi Lauper, a book by Tony winner Harvey Fierstein, and direction and choreography by Tony winner Jerry Mitchell.

Shears also wrote the music for the 2011 stage musical Tales of the City.
