Bareilles first stepped into the leading role of Waitress in 2017. In addition to Hello, Dolly!, Creel is known for his performances in Thoroughly Modern Millie, Hair, She Loves Me, and The Book of Mormon (for which he earned an Olivier Award).
Waitress, which opened April 24, 2016, is based upon the 2007 film written by the late Adrienne Shelly. The musical is the first Broadway production in history to have four women in the four top creative team spots, with a book by Jessie Nelson, a score by Bareilles, choreography by Lorin Latarro, and direction by Tony winner Diane Paulus.
Tony Award nominee Larry Marshall also rejoined the Broadway company of Waitress January 7. He steps back into the role of Joe, having previously played the part in 2017 on Broadway and in the musical’s national tour.
