Sally K. Marr, a former vaudeville and burlesque comedian and the mother of Lenny Bruce, died of heart failure on Dec. 14 at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles. She was 90. Born in Long Island, she began her career as a teenage dancer, and then turned to vaudeville.
Over the years she appeared in several films including Harry and Tonto (1974).
In 1994, Joan Rivers portrayed Marr in the Broadway play Sally Marr . . . and Her Escorts, which premiered at the Helen Hayes Theatre and ran for only one month.
Lenny Bruce died in 1966. Marr is survived by a granddaughter, Kitty Bruce.
