Kip Fagan directs the new comedy, which began previews Feb. 10 and opened Feb. 23 Off-Broadway. The run, originally slated through March 15, now adds two weeks of performances at the company's downtown home. Joseph Gomez (NY stage debut), Lisa Joyce (Red Light Winter, Blackbird), Greg Keller (Steve & Idi, The Seagull - BAM), Annie McNamara (God's Ear) and Danielle Slavick (NYC stage debut) star in the new work.
Callaghan (Fever/Dream, Ayravana Flies or A Pretty Dish, 13P member) penned the comedy about "a pair of radical feminist ex-strippers [who] scour the country on a murderous rampage against right-wing pro-lifers, blogging about their exploits in gruesome detail," according to press notes. "Meanwhile, a scruffy screenwriter named Owen tries to bang out his magnum opus in a hotel room as his best friend Rodney ('The Rod') pontificates on rape and other manly enterprises. When Owen decides to incorporate the strippers into his screenplay, the boundaries of reality begin to blur, and only a visit from Jane Fonda can help keep worlds from blowing apart."
The creative team also includes Narelle Sissons (sets), Jessica Pabst (costumes), Matthew Frey (lights), Eric Shim (sound) and Mary Robinette Kowal (props). Rick Sordelet handles fight choreography, and Brian Smallwood serves as technical director. Katrina Renee Herrmann is the production stage manager.
