As previously reported, Frost/Nixon and "The Queen" actor Michael Sheen will repeat his work as former British Prime Minister Tony Blair in the film from HBO. Sheen's high profile roles as television personality David Frost and Blair were both penned by Peter Morgan. Variety reports that Morgan will make his directorial debut on the teleplay that explores the political relationship with the leaders on both sides of the Atlantic. Tom Hooper had previously been announced to direct.
In addition to Quaid and Moore as the Clintons, actress Helen McCroy, who portrayed Cherie Blair in "The Queen," will repeat her duties for "The Special Relationship." The latest film will mark the third installment in Morgan's Blair trilogy of "The Deal" and "The Queen."
