Two-time Tony winner Christian Borle, most recently on Broadway in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, makes his New York directorial debut with James Hindman’s Popcorn Falls, which begins previews September 14 at the Davenport Theatre. Opening is scheduled for October 8.
Adam Heller (It Shoulda Been You, Elf the Musical) and Tom Souhrada (Desperate Measures, Mary Poppins) co-star, playing 20 roles in under 90 minutes.
The play is set in the small American town of Popcorn Falls, whose only claim to fame, their namesake waterfall, has dried up. Now bankrupt, their last chance is a large grant that can only be used if the town produces a play in a week. One big problem: no playhouse. Another problem: no play. Led by the Mayor and the local handyman, the townsfolk try to rise to the challenge and prove that art can change the world.
Popcorn Falls features scenic design by Tim Mackabee, lighting design by Jeff Croiter, costume design by Joseph La Corte, and original music composed by Jeffrey Lodin.
