As previously reported, Pittsinger's official website stated that the performer would fill-in for Tony Award winner Paulo Szot in the role of Emile de Becque Feb. 2-March 21. Pittsinger has subbed for Szot during his previous opera commitments, as well as for Rod Gilfry in the national tour of the musical.
Szot is taking leave from South Pacific to star in the Dmitri Shostakovich opera The Nose, which will begin performances March 5 at the Met. He will depart Jan. 24 and return to the production March 30. South Pacific standby William Michals will step into the role during the weeks of Jan. 29 and March 23.
Pittsinger made his Metropolitan Opera debut as Truelove in The Rake's Progress. He went on to appear in the MET productions of Don Carlo, La Boheme, Die Zauberflote and Giulio Cesare.

The Lincoln Center Theater production has musical staging by Christopher Gattelli, sets by Michael Yeargan, costumes by Catherine Zuber, lighting by Donald Holder and sound by Scott Lehrer. South Pacific boasts a 30-piece orchestra performing the musical's original orchestrations by Robert Russell Bennett and dance and incidental music arrangements by Trude Rittmann.
