
John Kander and Fred Ebb, creators of Cabaret, Chicago and Kiss of the Spider Woman, were honored with the 11th annual Oscar Hammerstein Award June 5 at the Gramery Theatre. The composer and lyricist are pictured with Rose star Olympia Dukakis. The Oscar Hammerstein Award commemorates lifetime achievement in the musical theatre and was created in 1988 by York founding artistic director Janet Hayes Walker. Past honorees include Stephen Sondheim, Harold Prince, Peter Stone, Jerry Herman, David Merrick and Cy Coleman. A concert of Kander and Ebb's work was given, where the featured stars were Dukakis, Sherie Rene Scott, Ann Reinking, Robert Cuccioli, Christiane Noll, Valerie Wright and Bruce Vilanch.
