Karen Ziemba and Deborah Yates attended the 2000 FANY Awards, where Contact was named Outstanding New Musical and Ziemba, Outstanding Supporting Actress, beating out co-star Yates. Kiss Me, Kate's Michael Berresse was shocked at his win for Outstanding Supporting Actor: Musical as was The Music Man's Ruth Williamson, who won Outstanding Supporting Actress: Play for Epic Proportions. Waiting in the Wings took home the Outstanding Play honor and Swing! the Outstanding Revue or Unique Theatrical Experience title. Acting honors were taken given to Brian Stokes Mitchell, Toni Collette, Kevin Spacey, Rosemary Harris, Ruth Williamson and Katy Selverstone. Like a Broadway's People's Choice Award, FANYs are voted on by the membership of the Friends of New York Theatre, an organization open to all.
