The 2009 Tony Winner for Best Musical celebrated its second anniversary on Broadway on Nov. 13, with the unveiling of the portrait — and a party — at Tony's di Napoli.
Based on the 2000 film of the same name, Billy Elliot tells the tale of a young boy with a dream of being a dancer, contrary to family and community expectations, as he struggles against the hard realities of life in a mining town. The show, which won ten Tony Awards, including Best Musical, features music by Elton John, book and lyrics by Lee Hall, choreography by Peter Darling and direction by Stephen Daldry.
