In the premiere episode, entitled "Hell-o," guest star Idina Menzel portrays Shelby, the coach of McKinley High's rival glee club Vocal Adrenaline. Jonathan Groff (Spring Awakening) appears as lead member of Vocal Adrenaline and a potential love interest for Rachel (portrayed by his former Spring Awakening co-star, Lea Michele).
