Playbill has learned that Broadway alums Caissie Levy and Patti Murin will lead the upcoming lab presentation of the Disney’s Frozen musical. The two will play Arendelle’s royal sisters Elsa and Anna, respectively. Murin continues with the project after performing in previous lab incarnations of the highly-anticipated stage adaptation.
Frozen, directed by Michael Grandage, is set to premiere August 17 at the Denver Center for the Performing Arts’ Buell Theatre, where it will run through October 1 before transferring to Broadway’s St. James Theatre in spring 2018.
Levy last appeared on Broadway as Fantine in the revival of Les Miserables; her additional credits include Ghost and Hair in the West End and on Broadway, Wicked, and Hairspray. Murin made her Broadway debut in Xanadu and has since appeared on the New York stage in Lysistrata Jones, Lady, Be Good!, and Love Labour’s Lost.
A spokesperson for Disney Theatrical Productions declined to comment on casting of the lab, Denver, or Broadway stagings at this time.
The musical will feature music and lyrics by the Oscar-winning creators of the Disney animated feature’s score: husband-and-wife team Robert Lopez and Kristen Anderson-Lopez. Audiences can expect to hear the mega-hit numbers from the movie—including “Let It Go”—as well as new songs written specifically for the stage adaptation. Original screenwriter Jennifer Lee will pen the book.
