Playwright development laboratory New Dramatists will honor Redwood co-creators Tina Landau and Idina Menzel at their annual spring luncheon, planned for May 27 at the New York Marriott Marquis.

Also set to be honored at the upcoming event is The Shubert Foundation, receiving the Isobel Konecky Award for serving the field with passion, dedication, excellence, and leadership.

Redwood, now in previews at the Nederlander Theatre on Broadway and set to open February 13, is co-conceived by Landau and Menzel, with Landau also directing, writing the book, and co-writing the lyrics (with composer Kate Diaz); and Menzel starring.

“Tina Landau and Idina Menzel are two galvanizing artists who have created some of the most memorable productions [and] performances in theatre history,” says New Dramatists Artistic Director Emily Morse in a statement. “Now, with Tina's and Idina's creative paths converging on Broadway this season in Redwood, the intertwining of their vision and presence to build—and bring to life—a wholly original new musical is cause for much attention and celebration. This May, at our Spring Luncheon, New Dramatists looks forward to honoring them as iconoclastic individual artists and uplifting their powerful collaboration.”

"As the nation’s largest funder dedicated to unrestricted funding of not-for-profit theatre and dance companies, The Shubert Foundation is truly a national champion of the performing arts,” adds Executive Director Christie Brown. “They’re a cornerstone of our field’s strength and resilience, most recently evidenced by their substantial support of over 650 performing arts grantees in 2024.”

The event will begin with a champagne reception, followed by the luncheon itself. Single tickets are available along with tables and premium scholarships. Visit NewDramatists.org or contact Sofie Wasserman-Smith for more.
