James, who sprained her ankle during rehearsals for the Stephen Schwartz musical, posted on Twitter Nov. 2, "Looks like i will be returning to my role in [Godspell] on the lucky date of 11/11/11. sounds good to me." A production spokesperson told Playbill.com that although no date has been officially set, the singing actress will return to the production when she is completely healed, which would be "no sooner than Nov. 11." James' role is being played by understudy Julia Mattison until her return.
James' previous Broadway credits include Wonderland and The Addams Family.
Directed by Daniel Goldstein with choreography by Tony Award nominee Christopher Gattelli, the cast also features Hunter Parrish (Spring Awakening, "Weeds") as Jesus, Wallace Smith (American Idiot) as Judas, Uzo Aduba (Coram Boy), Nick Blaemire (Cry-Baby), Celisse Henderson ("The Electric Company," In Transit), Telly Leung (Rent, "Glee"), Lindsay Mendez (Everyday Rapture, Grease), Anna Maria Perez de Tagle ("Hannah Montana," "Fame") and George Salazar (Spring Awakening national tour).
