After 15 years of ownership, Ed and David Mirvish from Toronto, are selling London's Old Vic theatre. Ed Mirvish, who was awarded a C.B.E. by the Queen in 1989, says that Mirvish Productions cannot give the theatre the attention it needs. Ed Mirvish outbid Andrew Lloyd Webber in 1982 to buy the Old Vic for more than $1 million (Canadian). Renovations cost an estimated $4 million.
The Mirvish family has lost approximately $55 million in their years at the Old Vic, but David Mirvish is looking for a new owner who will maintain it as a theatre. The selling price is $15 million, or approximately 7.5 million pounds. -- By Ray Ellicock
