Ben Thompson, most recently on Broadway as Miss Trunchbull in Matilda, joins the cast of Broadway's Waitress February 27 in the role of Earl.

Thompson joins a cast led by composer Sara Bareilles in the role of Jenna with Benny Elledge as Cal, Tony nominee Christopher Fitzgerald as Ogie, Drew Gehling as Dr. Pomatter, Caitlin Houlahan as Dawn, Lee Wilkof as Joe, and NaTasha Yvette Williams as Becky.

The ensemble features Victoria Collett, Dayna Jarae Dantzler, Kayla Davion, Tyrone Davis, Jr., Matt DeAngelis, Law Terrell Dunford, Andrew Fitch, Kate Grober, Molly Hager, Molly Jobe, Brandon Kalm, Anastacia McCleskey, and Stephanie Torns.

Thompson's previous stage credits include Holler If Ya Hear Me, Carrie, Rent, and American Idiot.


Based on the 2007 film and with a book by Jessie Nelson, Waitress tells the story of a Southern diner employee who dreams of escaping her abusive marriage by channeling her passions into her inventive pies—and an affair with a new-to-town doctor.

Waitress is produced on Broadway by Barry and Fran Weissler and Norton and Elayne Herrick. The musical plays the Brooks Atkinson Theatre.
