Roundabout Theatre Company, which operates the playhouse, will host an official unveiling and lighting ceremony Sept. 15 at 6:30 PM. The event will be attended by Stephen Sondheim and collaborators including actress Patti LuPone, librettist John Weidman and Tom Tuft, the chairman of Roundabout's board of directors.

The performance space originally opened in 1918 as Henry Miller's Theatre. The inaugural production was Louis Evan Shipman's The Fountain of Youth, with a cast that included the theatre's namesake. Over the decades the venue has served as a legit house, a nightclub, a cinema and an X-rated movie theatre. Its various names have included Park-Miller Theatre, the Avon-at-the-Hudson, Xenon, the Kit Kat Club and, on two separate occasions, Henry Miller's Theatre.
